5-HTP is an amino acid that our body produces from tryptophan, another amino acid found in protein-rich foods (meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, legumes, and nuts). Once absorbed, 5-HTP crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted in the brain into serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays an essential role in regulating mood, anxiety, appetite, and sleep.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Do not use if you have scleroderma.
KNOWN ADVERSE REACTIONS: Some people may experience drowsiness. Exercise caution if operating heavy machinery, driving a motor vehicle, or involved in activities requiring mental alertness. Some people may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, or abdominal pain.
